Den Bosch Max, winner of the Port of Rotterdam Carbonbid
To reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the Port of Rotterdam area, the Port of Rotterdam Authority launched the Carbonbid tender — an innovative approach in which companies are selected based on demonstrable and measurable CO₂ reduction.
Out of 54 submitted proposals, Den Bosch Max’s plan was selected as one of the winning entries. As part of the project, two inland vessels will be fully converted from diesel-electric propulsion to battery-electric operation.
The conversion is expected to deliver a CO₂ reduction of 2,539 tonnes over a four-year period — a significant contribution to the sustainability of inland shipping and the climate ambitions of the port area.

The award of the Carbonbid highlights Den Bosch Max’s innovative and sustainable direction.
We congratulate Diederik and his team on this well-deserved recognition and thank the Port of Rotterdam Authority for its initiative and for encouraging tangible sustainability projects.

Lease of Building C Noordkade extended to accommodate Ukrainian refugees
The Municipality of Waddinxveen has extended the lease agreement for Building C at Noordkade 64 by two years, ensuring that the building will remain available until December 2027 to accommodate 137 Ukrainian refugees. The property is owned by Vebado, part of Van Uden.
This extension ensures that a stable and safe living environment remains available for people who have been forced to flee their country due to the war in Ukraine. With no clear end to the conflict in sight, the need for long-term accommodation remains high.
Alderman Albert Kerssies:
‘With this extension, we provide clarity and certainty for the residents of Building C. These people deserve a safe place, peace, and stability.’
Van Uden considers it important to contribute, together with the municipality, to addressing societal challenges. By making Building C available, suitable accommodation can continue to be provided in the years to come.

Van Uden Holding: The Van Uden Owl — a gift to Rotterdam
On the eve of World Animal Day, Rotterdam gained a remarkable new landmark: The Owl. Van Uden Holding presented this six-metre-high artwork, designed by Joep van Lieshout (art studio Brutus), as a gift to the city that has meant so much to the company since 1948.
The Owl — located at De Balkon at Maashaven — can rotate 360 degrees. It symbolises wisdom: reflecting on the past with pride, looking ahead with an open mind, and, above all, caring for one another. Values that are deeply embedded in Van Uden’s DNA.
During the unveiling, director Sina Zolnoor addressed the youth:
“Never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. Everyone has their own talents. Even the wisest owl once started as a young chick.”
The unveiling also marked the start of a new tradition: The Day of the Owl — an annual festival by and for the Tarwewijk. A day of music, art, and connection, celebrating the strength and unity of Rotterdam South.
